The name “Owhata” has two meanings:

  1. O – place of Whata – Elevated stage for food or other purposes
  2. O – food or provision for a journey Whata – Elevated stage or platform

Therefore, both translations are appropriate, that the school is a storehouse of knowledge, where in food or sustenance is acquired by young children for the long journey ahead through life.
